Speaking after the Caroline Creevy case, Det Supt Brian Taylor, who had led the murder inquiry, said: “Clearly Valentine is a dangerous man and a danger to any woman that he chooses to come into contact with. Valentine’s other convictions included two counts of indecent assault and a seven year sentence in 1985 for robbery and burglary. Seven years earlier in 1991, Valentine had been convicted of killing Leeds woman Janet Willoughby after he had sexually assaulted her.Ĭleared of murder, he was found guilty of manslaughter and served five years of a seven year jail sentence. Passing sentence, Mr Justice Ognall said that Valentine must serve a minimum of 22 years in prison before parole could even be considered. In March 1998, two years after he murdered the sex worker, Valentine was jailed after a jury took just over an hour to return a guilty verdict.
